Siri Fiske
Founder
Siri Fiske
Siri championed the micro school movement, opening the first self- proclaimed micro school in the USA - Mysa School located in the Washington DC area from 2016. Frustrated by how little the research on learning was shaping the ways schools teach Siri decided to create a model of schooling based on what we know about how people learn. In her pioneering moments of delight, challenge and exasperation Siri realized that the work of founding a small school was filled with many tasks best suited not to educators but rather to entrepreneurs and people with business backgrounds. She wanted to find a way to connect school leaders to support each other and share resources while simultaneously providing a site to help parents find small schools for their children.
Throughout her life Siri has been an educational change agent, designing, launching, and nourishing many programs in public schools, including arts and music programs that currently reach thousands of students in the Los Angeles area. Always looking for ways to improve the education system Siri recently designed and launched a student information system (SIS) based on mastery learning that keeps track of what students know and need to know creating a database and visualizations depicting what students have learned and the evidence for that learning. The platform is unique because it is customized for each student revealing that the typical student works at multiple “grade levels” at the same time. The quintessential tool for benchmarking learner progress is being piloted in several school settings.
